I was reminded of this Cross Country quote earlier this week when one of my athletes mentioned training through a heat wave. Focusing on this positive mental mantra is very helpful to get through summer training, withstanding the heat and humidity that often slows down runners.
After only a few weeks of heat exposure, the body can acclimate. Heat training increases blood plasma volumes which helps muscles get more oxygen and delays muscle fatigue.
Training through the heat of summer will lead to faster finishing times in the fall. So let’s run summer miles, and allow them to bring fall smiles.
