Race Chronicles: Mercy Health Glass City Marathon

The Mercy Health Glass City Marathon was held on April 27, 2025 in Toledo, Ohio. Race weekend included the Mercy Health Glass City Marathon, the Owens Corning Half Marathon, the 5-Person Relay, the 5K, and a Kids run.

The Marathon is known to to be a flat and fast course, with approximately 1/3 of the field at this race qualifying for the Boston Marathon.

I was selected as a race ambassador to help promote the Glass City Marathon events. As an ambassador I received a free race entry which I used to run the Marathon.

Fellow Ambassador Herman, and I volunteered at the Air Force Marathon Expo September 20, 2024 in Dayton. We handed out glasses to promote the various Glass City Races.

Race Day

I stayed at the Red Roof Inn in Toledo the night before the Marathon.

Race day started with a 4am wake up to get ready and catch the shuttle from the hotel to the starting line. I was the first one on the bus.

I started in Corral C.

Overall this was a fun race. I ran approximately the first 15 miles with the 4:05 race pacers. Around mile 16 I started experiencing heel pain. I slowed down significantly and had to walk for a while.

I finished in 4:32

I dedicate this Marathon to 82 Striders whose names I printed on my race bracelet. These kids inspire me more than they might ever know. I am extremely proud to be their coach and surround myself with so many amazing runners.

Post race snacks included pancakes, sausage, pizza, and a cookie.
